If it was a sharpening halo, I'd expect to see it on other high-contrast edges also.
If this is a combined image (and your narrative seems to suggest it is), then perhaps it is a minor misalignment?

It is indeed a combined image of 11 shots using CombineZM to acheive the final pic. No further processing was done, except cropping to size in Photoshop.
Mis-alignment is probably inevitable due to the nature of the beast.
Camera is mounted on a sliding rail itself mounted on a tripod. Shots were taken every 10mm as the camera is "inched" towards the subject.
The focus is manual and setup on the leading edge at the start of the sequence.
When enlarged the halo can be seen as several mini halos, presumably the "echo" of each pic in the stack

There wasn't any PP on the original 11 shots was there? Like sharpening?

I have had some sucess in recreating pictures like I've seen others do on this forum.

So I'm looking for critique (blunt is fine as long as I can learn from it).
Secondly their is a slight halo around the petals - how do I get rid of it?

11 pictures each taken on a K10D & Tamron 90mm macro using:-
f2.8 - 1/30s - 90mm - ISO 100 - Spot metering - Av
