It seems that Lightroom is also available as a Adobe Creative Cloud app.

Does this perhaps signal the eventual end of the standalone software?

I hope not.

I manage ok with LR4 but was thinking of going for the LR5 upgrade, in case it is the last standalone version.

Might be worth waiting Barrie and see if the price drops? Or try the trial version.

More scary than the end of standalone software is the end of purchasing software and renting it instead. With the Rent model you are enslaved if you want to retain access to your work.

That's what I meant SMeggy.

Time to dig out an old PC and start playing with Linux and Darktable I think.

Think it depends how long you keep bodies for determines how long you can keep a version of Lightroom for. For someone who changes bodies every two yearsish, Lightroom works out at roughly a pound a week if you upgrade it every two years. I think or hope if they can incorporate content aware tool into Lightroom i can finally drop photoshop...

I downloaded the 30 day trial a couple of days ago and have had a bad experience of LR5.

I imported about 30 images and worked on about 15 of them. I uploaded 7 of to Flikr which went ok. But all 30 images were deleted from LR. They were still on the hard drive but had to be re-imported so all the editing work I had done was lost.

Seems LR5 has got some serious bugs
