I use the Delta DRF-14 S dedicated macro ringflash on my A-Mount camera, but am not sure if the Nikon/Canon/Olympus mount versions will be compatible for Pentax, though at under £70.00 delivered (new), it's a cracking bit of kit (Marumi re-branded) and available from Foto-Tip via evilBay.

I use either a Pentax AF160FC ring flash for convenience, or this . . .

The Manfrotto Hydrostatic arm will even extend the flash far enough to light a macro subject when I fit my 180mm macro lens to the bellows.

That looks like a really great setup Peter, can you post a couple of example images shot this way?

For you David, I will take some. I've not used it much over the winter as I prefer to take my macro shots 'in the wild' as it were, rather than stage them indoors.

I did use it last summer but I'm not sure that I can identify which images were shot with it.

BTW: Ordinarily I would use the tripod mount on the bellows where possible for fine focus adjustment. I assembled the rig to take the above image (and others) of it for Charlotte.

Diffused ringflash works for me
How do you diffuse ring flash without covering the lens? (this is possibly a stupid question isn't it?)
A ringflash screws onto the lens thread either directly or via an adapter ring, thus you shoot through the ring flash. See item: 120941609813 as an example, though I use the Delta DRF-14 on my A-Mount DSLR which is brilliant.
