light meters

Hi All woundering if someone out there could help i have just been given an old light meter "BEWI SUPER" i guess its about 25yrs old does any one know where i could down load a manual for it or does any one know any thing about it I think i understand how it works (never used a light meter before) but what is DIN and also CINE thanks for any help

The cine setting was used for (would you believe it) cine cameras and gave an aperture setting for the old 8mm cameras. This just gave a aperture as you couldn't change the shutter speed.

DIN is the old german standard of film speed. It was a slightly odd scale. At one time there was DIN and ASA. Generally now everybody uses ISO which is based on ASA. I am at wiork so I can't give a positive conversion but I think 18 DIN is 100 ASA or ISO (It may be 50???) If you add 3 to the DIN number it is the same as doubling the ISO number. If you need a conversion table I will look it up at ome.

For all practical purposes, DIN is the same as the logarithmic speed given currently on all film boxes. So 400/27 ISO is the same as 400 ASA or 27 DIN.

Kim is quite right in that if you add 3 to the DIN value you will double its ASA or the first ISO number. So 800 ASA we can calculate as being 30 DIN.

I knew I shouldn't have used my memory! 18 Din is 50 ASA not 100. I must have been thinking of Velvia.
