Light Box ( à la Blue Peter)

For this weeks competition entry I used my homemade light box - together with my homemade flash diffuser (see seperate post).

Fairly self explanatory:




The windows are made from tracing paper - there is one one the opposite side too. Illumination from 2 table lamps plus (on this occasion) wireless flash from a variety of angles.

Inside is a piece of white card attached at to the back at the top and coming down in a curve to the front. I've got some other colours which I can put in, but I generally use white.

Cost: I had to buy the two lamps - they were about the equivalent of GBP4.50 each. Add another GBP2 for tracing paper and card - total cost around GBP11.

When I've used it before without the flash, I set the custom white balance on the camera and got good results.

(for those who didn't grow up in the UK Blue Peter was (and in fact still is) a children's tv program that, at least in my day, made extensive use of sticky backed plastic and washing up liquid bottles to make various items.

This is my kind of technology Improvisation feeds the brain, and is so much more satisfying than throwing money away !
