Light and shadow

Gooseberries:

Cat, obviously not interested:

Not much seems to be in focus in the first one. When the subject is a bit ill-defined, as here, you need to use a smaller aperture and thereby increase the depth of field. In my view it would look better if all the central berries were in focus.

Green and red are a good colour combination, and I should try that again.

In the second, the cat's head is unfortunately partly in shadow, and the fact that she is looking away from the camera, but not at anything we can see, makes for a slightly dull picture. Exposure and focus are fine.

In the first picture I was focusing on the rightmost berry. Now it's a bit too late for a retry, maybe next year (it was taken in August). Interesting suggestion though, I didn't think about larger DOF. Next time I'll try more settings so I could compare the results. Maybe if I changed the focus or removed the leaf which obscures the berry I was focusing on?

The second one, the light and shadow patches gave me the impulse to take the photo, I just liked the scene. Unfortunately the cat looked at 'nothing' so there was no point tracing what took its attention - but then it's what the cats are - a bit arrogant and ignoring human when they don't need something

Know what you mean. Dogs think humans are friends, cats think they're mugs.

Cat's never look at 'nothing'. If they are looking in any particular direction, there is always a reason.

Nice images, the cat is puuuurrfect but could use a tighter crop to lose some of the extraneous background, but those gooseberries look more like red currents and black currents. Gosoeberries are green and hairy.

That's the reason I put 'nothing' in the quotes. Although I rather think the cat was listening to something, as it's looking at my parents' house's door direction.

They were gooseberries - this kind grows small and red, quite sweet too. Red currants have different leaves
What kind of crop did you thought about? Bottom - left?

I stand corrected, I've never seen red gooseberries before. The dark mauve berries (bottom left) look like blackcurrants to me.
