I recently acquired a Helios 58mm/2 lens from a forum member and took a few shots on my K10D. The build quality is not as good as my Super/SMC Takuamr 50s/55s with a slightly sloppy aperture ring but maybe that's to be expected? Also unlike the takumars, the end of the barrel is rather narrow so it only makes contact with the K mount adapter on my K10D and the whole lens wobbles. Nevertheless, I find the lens has pretty good IQ (at least for the money) and the rendering is very interesting. Here are a couple more:

Nice shot - not sure wht the lens should wobble unless the mount is loose or the adapter is not fitting correctly

I find that there is always a tiny little sideway movement after the adapter is installed but it is gone once a takumar lens is in place and tightened. The problem is that the Helios has a smaller surface area at the mount and it only tightens itself against the adapter, as opposed to the takumar where it's tightened against both the adapter and part of the actual lens mount. It's not a massive problem but it's just a bit annoying and takes some of the pleasure out of the focusing action!

Is this a genuine Pentax Adaptor or third party one?

My third party adaptor has a fair bit of movement with any lens thats fitted, even the Tak.

Yes, my adapter is a genuine item and I actually have two of them. They seem to exhibit the same slight movement when they are mounted on my pentax bodies without lens. Once a Takumar/Super Takumar is mounted, there is no movement whatsoever. I've even mounted the Takumar 135/3.5 which (in my collection) has the narrowest barrel and that was mounted solidly on the body. Having said that, my Jupiter-9 has a wider mount surface area which in theory should fit as securely as the Taks. However, it exhibits a slight movement even after it is screwed on tightly and it doesn't seem to fit as flush as the Taks. I can only assume that the Russian lenses probably have lower manufacturing standards?

I have the Helios-44M 58/2 I use on my Pentax K-x with a third part adapter of ebay from HK and I don't get any movement at all it's solid as a rock.
Nice pictures btw the Helios can be very sharp and has a nice Bokeh.

Thanks Christopher. I haven't tried any third party adapters but I might pick up a cheap one if I get the chance and see how it works out. It's not really a big problem but just a little annoying.
