Lens Problem

My camera is a *istDL2. One of my lenses is an M Series 20mm F4.
According to the article in the latest Pentax magazine, this lens and camera combination should work and, I believe, it is also the Pentax philosophy. No matter what I try I cannot get the camera to work when using this lens. What, if anything, am I doing wrong? Any help please. Thanks :

Hi!
There are two or three things you must do:

1) In the Custom menu, change the option "Using Aperture Ring" to "2 [Permitted]" - otherwise the camera will not allow the shutter to operate.

2) Switch the focus on the body to "MF".

3) It's probably best to use "M" mode on the body, and you have to stop down the aperture to get a correct exposure - I believe pressing the Green button will do this for you (stop down and meter in one go).

If you shoot wide open then it's not an issue.
You see the old film bodies had a mechanical linkage that allowed the body to detect at which f-stop the aperture ring is at. All digital bodies have no such linkage and so cannot tell what aperture the ring is set to - so you have to perform stop-down-metering.

Hope that helps!
