A simple and hopefully not a too silly one:
On the side of the lens hood that comes with the istds there is a little opening which can be opened and closed. What is this for?
many Thanks

I asked a very similiar question only a few weeks ago! It is so you can rotate a polarising filter if you fit one.

Hi,

The little opening (with the snap cover) allows you to adjust a polarizing filter with the hood in place.

It's also on the 16-45 lens. Kind of handy, actually.

Makes total sense but I don't think I would have worked it out. Thanks to you all for sorting me out on this one.

I had wondered about this also, then when I put my polarising filter on!!

Why don’t Pentax include this kind of information in their handbooks? I was surprised by the size of the handbook when I first saw it for the DS but the content is sadly lacking in so many areas.

Probably because they include it with the instruction manual for the lens

If you want the manual for the FA lens, it's available here http://pentax-manuals.com/manuals/accessories/accessmanuals.htm The information is on page 32 of the 03 manual.

Kim,

Thank you for letting me know where to find lens handbooks on the web.

One was not included with my last camera and lens but maybe that is more to do Jessops taking it out of the box than Pentax not proving one! I was not aware you can reverse the lens hood and mount it back over the lens for storage which is a nice touch.

You're welcome. I have some more (about 30) books and manuals to go onto the site as soon as I get the time to scan them.
