the best value for money and quality is the pentax DA L 55-300mm far superior to the sigma, a little bit dearer but check the classifieds forum on here could find one there
then slightly dearer again is the DA 55-300mm that comes with hood and quick shift focus which allows you to tweak focus manually when in auto focus , optics common to both models.
welcome to the forum

What do you have already and are you looking for something to replace it or complement it?

The Tamron equivalent is a very good lens.

I'm selling a Tamron 70-300, and a Pentax 55-300 in the classifieds, take a look! I do recommend gartmore's lead though, what do you have already?

you could sell your 50-200 to fund the Pentax 50-300, the F series lenses are good but much, much heavier than the new ones as well as having slower and much noisier autofocus.

If you have a friend willing to lend you the F100-300 I suggest you take them up on it, and see how you get on. Its a good lens but as Ken said, HEAVY & somewhat slow for AF.

I've used one in the past for BSB events, but when the DA 55-300 was on offer last year I jumped at the chance to increase the focal length range in a smaller/lighter package! So far test shots haven't shown any difference in IQ (the 55-300 has a better reputation).

I've also used 500mm & 600mm reflex lenses for motorsports - No AF or aperture control but MUCH lighter & with care can give good results. (Prefocusing required - things happen too quickly otherwise)

Quick shift is a life saver when in a quiet environment with this lens (e.g. concerts!) as you can quick-shift a manual focus while in auto-focus mode. You then get a click while it autofocuses instead of a much more noticeable "WHIRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR". Very handy, is quickshift!
