LCD Screen Protectors

Zach, the screen protectors are realy quite easy to attach. The website has good demonstrations and the instructions sent with the product are clear and easy to follow - essentially you spray some of the lubricant onto your fingertips and then onto both sides of the screen. Then it's just a matter of lining it up with the camera's screen and removing any bubbles with the provided "blade". I followed their recommendation and let it "stand" for 24 hrs. That's it!
If need be, the screen protector can be removerd and reapplied later - instructions for that are also included.

Just received my ExpertShield screen protectors from the US. They are everything the website says they are and are very easy to fit. They are practically invisible when in place and as polished and shiny as the actual screens themselves. The pack includes one for the LCD screen on the back and one for the LCD display on the top and costs £4.37, sent by airmail.

It is an old thread but instead of starting a new one I will add my experience to this thread.
I have allways been reluctant to use screen protectors since I have never managed to get one on a screen correctly so that it doesn't look ugly.
The top layer on the LCD's of our DSLR's are usually very tough ( I never had a scratch on one of them). But recently I bought a new toy, a Garmin Gpsmap 60csx which has a top layer which is slightly less tough then the ones that Pentax uses and the risk of dropping it is a bit bigger as well.
I did some searching and I ended up with the InvisibleShield covers. You apply them wet (a spray is included) so that you have some chance of moving and repositioning. I decided to buy one for the Garmin and I ordered a set for my K20D as well. For the K20D it comes with protectors for the rear and top LCD. For a change these protectors do work and once they have set (about 24 hours) they are still visible but it is not degrading the quality of the image.
I did "change" the user manual a little bit, it says to lightly spray the sticky side but it works a lot better when you simply soak the hell out of it (thank god for a weather proof DSLR ).

The soft plastic film protectors just stick by vacuum, so no adhesive at all is required. It's more difficult to remove grease from one of these than the bare screen, by the way.
The hard type of protectors have adhesive at the edges. These tend to be better in terms of clarity and ease of removing grease. Some are actually made of glass, though are thin enough to be somewhat flexible. I got a good one for my K20D. Would be interested in recommendations for the K-7.

The Invisibleshields are very easy to clean though.
I simply use a dry microfiber cloth and it works perfectly.

For my K10D and K20D I have purchased Glass screen protectors! They are available on eBay for about a fiver or so. They have an adhesive film with a peel off backing. Much easier to fit than the sticky plastic film variety - No air bubbles and can be cleaned with a micro fibre cloth or similar. Supplier tells me there is not one for my K7 yet but suggests their generic 3" screen protector. Sounds dodgy being made of glass but the manufacturer states that they are as tougher than the original screen

The GGS one linked to by Mayday is the one I got for my K20D too. It's probably as good as any protector can be.

The size of this GGS one (judging by the description) is OK for the K-7:

Grease does not wipe off soft plastic protectors so easily even with a microfibre cloth. Hard glass ones are better.

Going to give this one a go for my K7...

are all 32 LCD screens on DSLRs the same size ?
If so then this one for the Canon 500D should fit the K7

On my first DSLR I did nothing. Three years later when I gave it to my sister she squealed about how scratched it was. I hadn't noticed but she was right. It didn't effect operation but looked bad.
So, on my second DSLR I used the films. I bought them for PDAs and cut them down to size. I never did manage to put one on without bubbles. I wear my camera as a stroll and after a few weeks the film would start peeling off. So, I bought a glass cover made by Giotto. It stayed on my camera.
My new camera arrived a month ago and I ordered the glass cover at the same time I ordered the camera.

No, not all "3 inch" screens are the same size. For a safe bet, you should find out the precise measurements of the protector.
If the dsecription is correct, the one I've ordered will fit my K-7, but with no margin for error. I'll need a steady hand to apply it.
