LBA kicks in (again)

I've just realised I have the dreaded LBA, and as much as I fight it, I too want a Samyang 8mm, and a Samyang (Vivitar) 85mm f1.4.

I haven't bought a lens for a month now.

I'm taking it one day at a time.











But I have bought a flash, a light meter, some batteries, a strap...

I find it slows down after you have all the affordable lenses that Pentax made...

Doing pretty well for a collection of K and M series glass worth owning for sane money, I wouldn't mind a 100mm prime at some point and a 28-50mm but I have most of the rest.

I doubt if you can do better than the Samyang 8mm for the money - it was a bit cheaper when I bought it. I sometimes regret selling it but realistically I get a lot more use from the Pentax 15mm Ltd not least because it is so small and portable that I usually have it with me when photo opportunities crop up.

On the subject of LBA I am trying to conquer my addiction by resolving to sell an old lens every time I buy a new one. It does not really save money but the quality on my lenses has improved!

Thanks for your comments. I couldn't really justify the Pentax 10-17 price wise, although it's undoubtebly a fine somewhat unique lens. The Samyang really appeals to me, the DA15 and FA31 are on my wishlist, I'd love to own both these very fine lenses. The problem is I have the Sigma 10-20, Pentax FA28/2.8 and FA35/2 so I've basicly got that range covered and can't really justify the purchase of DA15 & FA31
I too have been selling off some of my older lenses as I purchase new but seem to have got to the point where I'm reluctant to let any more go, the replacement for the K-7 may change all that, until then I continue to use the K20D which I really enjoy.

Hi John,

As you have the Sigma 10-20 you really have the the rectilineal WA range well covered. The fisheye is rather fun though probably not used all that frequently. I am sure you would enjoy the Samyang 8mm and it is well worth the price. It is fairly big with a bulbous front element but no more I suspect than your Sigma (surmise as I have never used a Sigma 10-20).

thanks for the comment, it's roughly the same size as the Sigma as far as I can tell, but the Sigma lacks the bulbous front element and can be used with filters. I'm looking forward to using the Fiseye sometime in the not too distant future

Nothing much, to be honest. I wasn't trying it with the intention to buy it, they just had it in stock when I was there for the day, so I had a play. This was at LCE Colchester, not sure if they still have it, might be worth a ring?

Resolution was okay, a bit soft at the edges, but I guess you'd expect that. I suppose I'm just a bit spoilt by the lenses I have now (you've got the DA*300, you know what I mean ). PF was evident, but I don't know how it compares to other fisheyes. I'll dig out the images and post a couple of samples in the next day or two if you want - too late to do it tonight.

Thanks for the comment, I know what you mean by spoilt by lenses I thought I'd take a chance and clicked the Buy it Now button the other night, but for some reason Paypal is refusing to pay for it and I've had no contact from the seller. I even tried paying manually from my Paypal account, but no Ebay items showing for payment So I guess I'm just waiting.

The Sigma 10-20's front element protrudes slightly, but it will still take filters (ie it's nowhere near fisheye levels of stickoutage). The Sigma 8-16 on the other hand doesn't take filters, and the front element sticks out quite far.
