Hi all,
Maybe there is a medic over here who can help me
Not so long ago i bought myself a nice *istDL2 with kitlens. Nothing wrong here, as i was happy as a clam and so was my better half. She was pleasantly surprised about the prices and if i am happy she is also Then i got to know this forum( always nice to meet fellow brand users, specially the cool and friendly lot of you all,Yes?) So 15 September i registered, not knowing what was about to happen to me. I as a Dutchman did read about LBA over here but i really did not know what it stood for. And i was afraid to ask thinking i would be the joke of the day. Now we are two and a half week further and the next symptoms are happening to me.
DA 50-200
Pentax SMC A 2.8/135
Pentax SMC A 1.7/50
Katz-Eye split prism screen
Hoya Pro 1 CP
All these are now in my possession and the two A lenses came from that big auction site. Equipment-Buying-Addiction-Yeah!!
Can someone please give me a medication, or is there no cure for this type of illness?
Please : :

Thanks in advance
Martin
Best regards,

Martin.

It's an interesting thing this LBA. I've noticed that when people ask "Should I buy a K100D or a K10D", one of the answers is often "Get a K100D and spend the difference on good glass".

While I wouldn't for a moment disagree that good glass is worth having, I think it doesn't take into account the tiny proportion of the eventual total equipment budget represented by the difference between the cost of the two bodies.

I had no idea when I started, that within 9 months of getting the K10D, I would end up spending more than twice as much on lenses and other (obviously vital) bits and pieces, as I did on the body. I didn't mean to, honest guv...

I'll be selling some of my less frequently used bits and pieces, including a few lenses, in the near future, but it's all still left me with the feeling that although there may be good reasons for getting a K100D instead of a K10D, the difference in price is not as obviously one of them as one might think.

In all probability you'll get the lenses eventually anyway.

Generally, we might as well get what we really want in the first place. If we don't, we buy something cheaper first and then eventually buy what we wanted anyway.

That is an expensive way to do things, which is why I stopped doing it. I wish I'd stopped sooner.

You're absolutely right - if only finding out what we really want wasn't such an expensive process!!

I find these days the intensity of the "Aarrgghh" when one is beaten by a quid or two on eBay is quite a good indicator...

Unfortunately, it has suddenly become a lot more expensive in the digital age. Until recently, I think my last "new" purchase was when the LX came out. Apart from that the was a "new" MZ5 but this was in a sale so heavily discounted that it was cheaper than a second hand one. If you are patient many of the older lenses can still be had secondhand. At least then, if you find it is not for you, you can resell without much loss. The problem comes with the digital only items. Quite often I see DS's, DL's etc on sale for about the same price as a new K100 and people are far more reluctant to buy a secondhand digital camera.

I think these days, lenses can still be considered an investment because, apart from the "kit" lenses, they do hold some value. As far as the bodies are concerned, you do tend to have to "write off" any purchases.

As an aside, I have always referred to it as GAS.

The only known cure for LBA is to win the lottery (at least twice) then buy every piece of kit available.

Very true. I thought I was cured for a while and even sold off quite a few of my lenses - now I find my lens count is gradually climbing again (20+ at present with a couple in the post). Of the lenses I sold inevitably there are a few I miss badly now as well (FA* 24 F2, Tokina ATX 28-70 F2.6-2.8, SMC-M 35mm F2, Sigma 28mm F1.8 ) so I've almost convinced myself never to sell a lens again!
