Hi Glen,
I have PSP X2 but I`m still trying to get my head around the layers thing myself, Anyway the way I would do it is as follows,
1, Select the image you require
2, zoom in on the petal you want to keep red so it fills most of the screen
3, Click on the 'freehand selection tool' on the left-hand side of your screen, then go to 'selection type' and click the drop down box then select 'smart edge'
4, Now isolate the petal with the smart tool, you should now have the marching ants around it
5, Top of your screen click onto 'selection' and then 'invert' in the drop down menu, now convert the image to mono in the effects menu at the top of the screen, (colour filters) Your image should now be mono but the petal still its original colour When you use the selection tool just make sure all settings are set to 0.
There are probably much easier ways to do this and I`m sure somebody with more experience than myself will help out. Have you visited the Corel knowledge base btw? http://corel.force.com/index

I use PSP 9, I presume it is the same in X2.
Select New Adjustment Layer. Choose Colour balance ( I think ) and then check Monochrome.
That will create a Mono layer over the top of your image.
Switch to the new layer.
Then use the paint brush to "paint out" the layer over the leaf you want to colour. This effectively erases the layer in that area to reveal the colour below.

Getting there! Thanks to you guys

Father Ted and Cliff, thanks for the help. I tried both methods, but got stuck on the 'check Monochrome' bit in Ted's tips. (There was no option to select Monochrome). Cliff's method worked a treat (see gallery).

I want to convert a red flower to black and white, then colour a single petal the original red colour. Any help, much appreciated.
