Cheers John; I admit I'm not sure about the zoom shot, but thought it would be interesting to see people's opinions.
My favourite is the marina shot, I like the composition of the figure and the lampost, and their shadows. Plus the clouds really add something too.
I was ultimately dissapointed with the Lancaster shots in that I only had the kit lens with me. Should have brought the Tammy....

I dont know why you are disappointed withe Lancaster shots, I like the one with the chimneys a lot. The first thing I thought of with the marina shot is that he his having a pee...

Now you mention it...that is just what it looks like!
I cant look at it in the same way again!
I do like the chimney shot, and I think I did a great job with what I had at the time, I suppose I'm concentrating more on 'what if' which Isn't a good idea.

Bob,
I shot a wedding (pre-Photoshop) and it wasn't until the album had been assembled that we noticed in a sort of full length profile shot of bride and father that the father's thumb was, shall we say, awkwardly placed!
Best to say nothing, we thought.

Oh dear, definitely the right thing to do is to say nothing in those circumstances. Plus a bit of a shock once it's been assembled. You never know, they may be blissfully unaware (just as I was!).
The person in that image is actually my stepfather...I'm considering doing a little bit of photoshopping as a joke. Yeah why not!

I like the second one. The zoom trick gives a "VE-day" air to it.

Thanks guys!!!
Peter, i'm glad you actually like number 2, I can understand why it would polarise people - but there's something about it I still like.
I must admit I am pleased with how # 1 came out though.

I like number one, the zoom does give it added dynamism. I also like the Lancaster with the chimneys.
The marina shot..I too thought he was having a pee
Is the horizon straight on that one?

Ooooh Father Ted, you're not being the horizon police are you?
I've gone and corrected the horizon a little for you!
Seriously though, I can't look at that pic anymore and not think that a little bit of urination might be going on!
I cant believe I did'nt notice it before.

What??? I've got to read up on that remake! How interesting. Peter Jackson is a legend and I admire Stephen Fry.
Right i'm off to google....

Went back t'hills from whence I came (Saddleworth) to see family and also see a WW2 event which happens annually there. All sorts of vehicles are on show which peform a huge convoy throughout the villages. They also have a re-inactment of battle, plus this year a Lancaster Bomber flew overhead.
It's all because the 1979 WWII film "Yanks" was mostly shot on location around Saddleworth, with all the extras being local people. It's referred to as "Yanks" day.
Whilst I was there I also took a shot of a new Marina which has been recently constructed in my home village of Greenfield (well, home village until I was 20). This is also next to a new pub which has been built, "The Kingfisher" and a very nice one it is too, just what I needed for a sunny and warm day!
All were taken with the 18-55M KII.
I played around with the "zoom while shooting" (or whatever you call it) effect, which I've not done before. With mixed results (still not sure if it works on number 2 as it's very heavy, but I do like the fact that you are immediately drawn to the girls face). The subtle affair which I immediately liked on number 1 worked better for me as it conveys the sense of speed and the jeep really stands out).
As usual, all comments and feedback are greatly appreciated.
