Well, I wouldn't get rid of my K200D, I love it.
I'm sure you'd miss some of the features of the K-r, but the K200D is a wonderful camera.

I don't think it's stupid at all and nor do I think it is necessarily a "downgrade". Depending on your requirement, you would in fact gain a pentaprism finder (K10D), dual command dials (great to have ISO/Aperture control on each dial in Av mode), Top LCD display, ability to use certain non-PTTL flashguns in auto/manual modes (depending on trigger voltage) and weather resistant body. I personally also think it is better built and feels more solid (In the case of the K10D - This is subjective however). There would obviously be some trade-offs including the younger age of the KR, lighter/smaller body, faster AF, faster frame rate, higher top shutter speed, ability to shoot video at 720p, higher resolution LCD, the choice to use AA batteries/proprietary lithium ion battery and cleaner image at higher ISO (400/800+), etc, etc.....
.....But.....
If none of those advantage of the KR actually matter to you, then you should definitely look into getting either one, especially the K10D. I have owned/used the *ist Ds, K100D, K10D, K7, KR, K5, K-01 (and various generations of Canik*n/k*nica Min*lta/S*ny DSLRs; Sams*ng/MFT Mirrorless cameras) and although I have sold off all of my Pentax digital bodies, the K10D is the one that I miss and regret selling. There is something very pleasing about the images produced by that Sony 10MP sensor, the images at lower ISOs are so smooth and clean and the colours are very natural. Even tho the current generation of CMOS sensors are really pretty good (K5/Olympus OMD-EM5), it still amazes me when I look at some of the photos produced by my old K10D.
This is of course my own opinion and the only way to truly find out is to use one and see the result for yourself.

Moment of doubt I think.....
I think the JPEG/RAW comparison has a lot to do with the difference.
THanks for your helpful replies.

Is that stupid? Only bothered about images up to 800 iso.
If there is no pay off I would consider a 'swap' for a 10d or 200d for my Kr- boxed with all parts etc and shutter count of about 4k.
Cheers!
