My 17 year old son has decided to move on from his compact and is looking to get a DSLR to expand his creativity.

I was just wondering what the thoughts were regarding him getting a Kr for £459 (inc £70 cash back) or the Kx for £349?

Any thoughts appreciated.

Andy

The K-r and the K-x are both good DSLRs. The different is the K-x does not have the AF illuminator (lil red dot) in the VF while the K-r has it.

The Kr btw also have an AF assist light when it gets dark and the Kr has a different sensor.
Many think it's the same but that's not true the one in the Kr is even smaller so they are really different, they are both from Sony though.
Also the Kr use the new AF system.

I know the Kx had some artefact's when shot low ISO, don't know if the Kr is better in that aspect?

I honestly can't see the difference in price being worth buying the K-r. Besides which, you can find the K-x even cheaper than you mention... check out the deals thread on this forum. The rest of the money can be saved up for lenses or a body upgrade to a K-5 or equivalent down the road.
