Kata DR466/467

HI there. Can anyone tell me what the real difference is between these 2 bags? According to the Kata website the internal dimensions of the camera-carrying part are identical, and even the external dimensions are fairly close. Is it really worth paying the extra for the 467?

One bag is squarer than the other. I can't help more than that, but did write an extensive article on my favourite.

I must admit I wasn't particularly impressed with the Kata bag..I bought one a while ago to replace my Tamrac adventure 7 but found it quite flimsy & the padding quite thin in comparison...access to the camera was better though - sent it back & still have the Tamrac

Just be aware that a rucksack style bag is a good target when in crowds,especially with a logo like that on it.

Purses and laptop bags are, I think, the first two things a thief would grab.

Not so, you wouldn't even notice someone opening a backpack and helping themselves in a busy crowd as alfiemoon says. It happens to tourists all the time. My Lowepro Sligshot is 'lockable' by threading the loops on the zip pulls through straps. I dont know if the backpacks are the same.

And I wouldn`t take my laptop to an Airshow or Steam Fair..but no,I feel the point is slightly missed here,in the Big Wide World,any manufacturer wants free advertising but to the Lesser Spotted Light Fingered Egyt (related to Magpius Magpeé..ha ha),anything with a Logo on it has got to be worth a £10 for a fix.

This is no doubt a real risk but not as much with this bag as you might think. It needs to be unzipped almost all the way across and yanked down quite firmly to make enough room to remove gear. This is not a pack made for quick access and that is one reason I like it (and others might not).

A sling pack or nearly any other kind of bag is more at risk.

Just the same, I would not wear it in dense crowds.

It`s more a case (ha ha,case...get it?) of "Horses for Courses",if someone really wants your bag,they`ll wait until your attention is elsewhere and an Airshow or an event with a Main Display Arena,what do we have a habit of doing?,yep,putting our bags down on the ground and while that plane is buzzing around...whooooops,your bag has gone.

I did see one great set up at RIAT this years but "she who is to be obeyed" has said "NO!".It was a "stanley" type tool box,complete with padlocks,attached to a small step ladder,one set of legs had wheels attached...it looked soooo cool...and all that free advertising space too...ha ha ha

If someone really wants something from me they'll corner me in a dark alley and pull a knife. Happened once. But still I don't waste much time worrying about such things.
