K7 to buy or not to buy ????

Hi Jon

Both my K10's are gripped so I would be going with one for the K7 as well. But take your point. I tend to leave the bigma on one body anyway, so may well just leave it on the remaining K10.

I will pop into Currys or Jessops and try one.

Regards

Paul

if you try jessops you will be lucky to find someone who knows what a camera is. If you find a pentax it`s been nicked.

Might as well forget Jessops as they don't stock Pentax (which I think is also something to do with Pentax understandably not wanting to give them a load of stock upfront and with no payment until sold, especially when Jessops were operating on the verge of bankruptcy). If there is a Jacobs or LCE anywhere near you, they may have a K-7 or could certainly get one for you to try.

I bought the K-7 last July and was previously using a K20. Apart from a few extras such as the increased FPS, the automatic horizon and video (which I hardly ever use), I don't feel that it is such a major upgrade from the K20D for my purposes. Image Quality of the K20D is just as good maybe slightly better in my opinion.

So I would look around for a good quality new or used K20D or even the Samsung equivalent (GX-20), I handled one in SRS some time ago although there are slight differences in the body design.

As others have mentioned though try and find somewhere that has one in stock so that you can try it out, even better if they have both for comparison

Also a different menu layout and (probably a bigger deal if you use it) JPEG processing.

I have had my K7 since July and it just keeps growing on me! I really do think it is a great camera and my photography is improving with the K7, I don't think I will need to upgrade for at least another 5 years as it is providing me with everything I need and a bit more as I keep discovering. I will invest in some better glass, but for me the K7 is my one and only!

I am thinking along the same lines as you... the K20 may be great, but the K-7's aesthetics (particularly with M and DA primes attached) and extra functions make me think I'd be more than satisfied with it for a long time. I just need to wait for the right occasion to treat myself to this rather extravagant upgrade - selling my boat this year, and I think I will give myself a treat to console myself.

However if I had a K20d rather than a K200d, it would be a much harder decision.

In my view, if you shoot with a grip the K7 handles much better. The grip on the K20d always felt a little rounded.
