Today I called SIMPLY ELECTRONICS, the company that I refer to on this post.

Apparently the equipment is not a Grey Import and is in fact stock held in the UK.

I draw your attention to something that worries me about this company and the way they work.
The goods, like I say, are held in the UK and are not imported, but the issue is with the warranty. The warranties are not with Pentax, Canon, Nikon etc but are in fact through Simply Electronics themselves. So if there was ever a problem with the camera then you would have to send it back to "SE" then they send it back to Pentax, etc.

So unlike most companies who offer warranty, SE hold it rather than the manufacturer. They say that this is how they offer the prducts so cheaply than anyone else.

I for one would not touch them with a barge pole.

Hi Paul,

They might now hold some stock in the UK but where did it originate from?
And if they say they are not grey imports there should be no problem with them offering a Pentax UK warranty. After all if the stock is not 'grey' they would sourced the it from Pentax UK surely.

By the way I'm not questioning you Paul it's just the rubbish that they have spouted out

Like you say I wouldn't touch them with a barge pole

I think that amounts to a rather substantial quantity of bovine excrement.

Apparently I was the first person to ever question the way they work!

Oh and thank you again for pointing this out to me, you have no idea how close I was to clicking on that check out button.

Another thing that bugs me is that they have only been trading for 2 years (apparently, I have not seen or heard of them before). What happens if they go bust? What happens to the warranties then?

I saw them advertised on here earlier. I really hope that people read this or their T's & C's before buying from them.

I certainly will read them on any site from now on!

I have purchased items from this company, via Amazon Marketplace, and they were just fine.

Before we dismiss them out of hand, at least look at the Amazon Marketplace Guarantee and see if you find it reassuring enough.

And, of course, the feedback given by Amazon customers.
Best regards, John

John

The company themselves look great on the website and I imagine the customer service is ok. It doesn't explain clearly that the warranties are not from the manufacturer themselves. This is what has bugged me.
If I were to buy some kit from an online or highstreet store then I would expect a full manufacturer warranty. Not from some company who has been running for only 2 years and could go bust at any given moment especially in todays climate.
If that happened (ok there are a lot of "if's" here) then my warranty would be worth nothing at all.

Edit: spelling

What worries me about this and other similar companies is the veil that they hide behind.
If you dig around a little you can usually get a good idea of how they operate.

Pixmania are selling lots of K7 and K20 bundles on eBay at the moment, prices look quite good.

Just look at what "Camera Box" have to say about SE?
Camera Box has some of the best prices of UK stock also saying that SE are grey import, not UK sourced.
All Camera Box items are warranted in this country not just by the seller.

A K7 is GBP562 at Adorama +approx 8.25% state tax if you buy in shop. If your going to NY or have a friend going on holiday it's a good buy.
