I seem to have a new custom setting, presumably it came with the latest firmware update. Certainly isnt in the manual that came with the camera.

The setting is 36 and it says - Operation when AF point is set at "SEL". There are two options

1 is "Calling Function Preference". 2 is "Select AF Point Preference".

The description for option 1 says:

"When AF point switching dial is set at "SEL", the preference is for calling shooting function.

The description for option 2 says

"When AF point switching dial is set at "SEL" the preference si for selecting AF point.

I think I know what option 2 does, but I have no idea what option 1 does.? Can someone give me a simple explanation and under what circumstances this might be useful?

As shipped (Option 1), when you use the buttons surrounding the OK button, you will call up the options as marked on the buttons (WB, timer, flash, etc). To choose AF points, you need to press OK first and you can then use the other buttons to scroll the AF point around the screen to where you want it.

Option 2 allows you to change the AF points using those buttons without pressing OK first - whereas you do need to press OK to get at the other shooting parameters (WB, flash, etc).

So you can choose whether it is more important to you to change the shooting parameters (option 1) or the AF point (option 2) without first pressing OK.

Hope this helps,
