Portrait night at the club again. Took an old Pentax-F 50mm f/1.7 and Pentax kit lens 55-200mm. This is one with the 55-200mm, red eye removed in ACR. C&C's welcome.

This one taken using the old Pentax-F 50mm f/1.7 and was converted to B&W in Topaz B&W 2.

Hi Stan

Certainly no expert on portraits but the eyes look pin sharp on both of them and I like the gritty processing of the second

Thanks Alan. I used the latest version of Topaz B&W on the second one. I think it's an improvement on the first version.

The first shot looks a bit bland to me, probably because of the very flat lighting. The second has lots of drama and evokes something of the character of your sitter. This one definitely hits the spot.

A good example of how direct, strong frontal lighting can suit one subject and not another. The girl's pose is also awkward and unnatural. The second shot is very strong. Both lenses look nice and sharp.
Best wishes,

Andrew

Thanks for you comments John and Andrew. I was quite pleased with the "lens test" regards sharpness, was hand holding the camera too. As far as the girl's pose was concerned we left that to her Dad. My main source of light was the built in flash, but during the "closed season" I'm hoping we can organize a Studio Night or two so as to get to grips with the studio flash etc., and get some tutoring from those who know about such things I always welcome advice and take notice of the constructive comments on the forums
