I think you are going to find table lamps with flexible heads or the type with positional arms to be very effective... just a matter of finding the right wattage bulbs... cfls are cooler than others... something to keep in mind...
on a side note, I've seen some interesting works shining a laser through a drop of water to project an image onto a blank surface used instead of a microscope... could be worth googling around for ideas...

Fired many shots. Didn't kill anything.

I find LED spotlights are a good option (bright, low heat, if a bit expensive for a bulb) generally in a desklamp mounting.
I often end up using a LED torch though as it saves finding an extra power point, and is more easily redirected.

However...
The amount of extension this gives, "film plane" to mic. eyepiece, makes the tungsten bulb illumination supplied with the mic. inadequate for easy viewing/focusing through the K7 viewfinder.
Does anyone know of a (low-cost!) positionable light source (halogen?), perhaps on some sort of flexible arm? Such a device would enable the slide to be lit either from below, via the mirror, & above for opaque objects.
While I'm on(!), could someone please advise: will my right-angle finder, MX fitting, fit my K7? Don't want to cause damage just giving it a go!
Any thoughts would be appreciated.
