I've used this combination quite a lot and have been very satisfied with it. I find it particularly useful when I am out all day at events such as steam railway galas, moving around a lot and needing a mixture ofwide angle and longer shots. I stick the K5 setting to TAv and the f stop to f8 and adjust the speed depending on whether trains are moving or static and let the ISO take care of itself. I am happy with the results and have had prints nicely up to 16 x 20

I use the Tammy 18-250, it's the same as the Pentax one, and have just shot a few frames with my K5.
So far so good, the images at the long end suffer a little in the clarity side, but nothing PP can't sort.
The camera's set to Av, but I have played with other settings, preferring to use Av most of the time.

This is my main set up and I haven't noticed anything particular about matching the two.
The weaknesses of the 18-250 are still there but very manageable all the same.
