K5 SD Card ejection stiff?

It's normal
There's a technique to ejecting with the K7 & K5 - you push in with a fingernail and slide your finger off the card quickly. (So rather than pushing like a ball point, you're making an "L" shape movement) This lets the spring in the SD card slot eject the card out more fully.
It seems to vary a bit depending on the card as well.

It's like that on mine too. IMO the slidey card door and the ease of getting the cards in and out is a real design weakness of the K-5 compared with the 10/20.
Shame, since more or less everything else is so much better.

Just to add that you also need to be careful INSERTING the SD card as well!
I'm not sure how the card is 'gripped' within the slot, but I recently inserted one and a small piece of the plastic from the card got snapped off and lodged into the bottom of the SD card slot. Foolishly, I thought I'd try and get it out myself - which resulted in a heafty repair bill !!

The card ejection is a matter of practise,it becomes second nature if you use your thumb nail and middle finger nail,it is probably the sealing of the card, it feels like a rubber seal makes it a bit stiff.

Within 30 minutes I have enough answers to satisfy me that I haven't got a faulty model and some additional advice on inserting too! Thank you all!

My SD cards were also very sticky, on one of the other forums there was a post about sanding down (only a fraction) the long thin sides of the card, which I did.
Now if I'm not careful when removing the cards they jump up to meter in the air.

The K-5 is smaller than the K20D and as a consequence there isn't as much room to get fingers in to grasp the SD card. I use two opposing ringernails to make this easier, but it's one design aspect that is actually better on the K20D.
Best regards, John

Coming from the K10D, I was worried about it when I bought the K5 (as the complaint was the same for the K7).
It's indeed a bit tighter but I hardly experience it as barely swap cards and upload is via the cable.

it is a little bit on mine but not too bad - far worse on my K200D so the K5 was actually a step up so to speak

I'll second that. With fingers like popeye I struggle to the degree I now carry a set of plastic tweezers in my bagIt's like that on mine too. IMO the slidey card door and the ease of getting the cards in and out is a real design weakness of the K-5 compared with the 10/20.

I watched the video that Greg linked to, I didn't expect SD cards to be so different in size! Not sure if I'm brave enough to sand the cards down though
Thanks Greg

Hi Lennie,
I sanded down nine cards with no problem, one only has to take off a very small amount. One thing to watch out for is that the write lock slider can move to the lock position whilst sanding, caught me out.

Thanks Greg - I'll give it a try on one of my smaller capacity cards at the weekend - Assuming that works out it'll give me the confidence to do the others!

On my K20 when i pushed the card in it "springs" it out slightly then I grip it and pull out smoothly. On the K5 the push in and spring out works the same, but when I grip it there is considerably more pull required (and sometime a bit of a wiggle) to take the card out, some times it feels as though it is not going to come out. I have tried with 3 cards, all the same.
Any comments/advice greatly appreciated
