K5 PEF or DNG?

It probably makes no difference to the end result, but in terms of compatibility you've more or less answered the question already.

Now the DNG files are a similar size to PEFs there seems little reason to switch.
When in-camera DNGs were so huge there was a good reason to shoot PEFS.
That said, if and when compatibility comes I'll probably give the PEFs a go .

I've stuck with DNG's over PEF's for a while now. Avoids any issues with future compatability...

DNGs here. Can't see a reason to save as anything else.

For long term archiving it is likely that DNG will become the de facto standard so I would stick with that.

Lots of film bodies, a couple of digital ones, too many lenses (mainly older glass) and a Horseman LE 5x4.

Everyones said it already really...I've never used anything but .DNG which makes more sense than .PEF to me

Thanks for the replies Guys, I'll probably stick with DNG then! It's interesting, and partly why I begged the question, that when someone else asked this question when I got my K10D that the answer was firmly PEF - times change I guess! Thanks again,

On the K10D, DNGs were hugely bigger than PEFs.

I did DL Adobe's DNG prog, and briefly tried converting PEFs to compacted DNGs, but it was too much hassle.

As on the K20.

The main reason given for .PEF was as George mentions...file size. Personally this seemed a bit of a non-issue - having spent £500+ on a DSLR body spending £20 on a decent 4GB memory card was pretty insignificant

Use Lightroom instead of Aperture, problem solved
