K5 and Tamron 18-200 Focussing Issue?

I had the K5 and Tamron 18-200mm lens delivered and had a good play with it yesterday.

80% of the shots i took were slightly out of focus. Does this body or this lens have a known focussing issue?

I use a K5 with a Tamron 28 - 300 and much the same as yourself. Tried adjusting the in camera settings but still no difference. Pentax glass is always spot on though so I point the finger of blame at Tamron. I would never buy another one.

My K-5 has focussing issues with all types of lenses, including Pentax glass. It just isn't consistent - for example I can take the same image twice from the same spot with the K-5 and the Pentax DA 17-70 lens and one will be in focus whereas the next is off. This doesn't happen with the same lenses on my K-5iis, so it's definitely a camera problem. It gets worse with low light, but it is there to some degree in all conditions.

I wouldn't be too hasty to blame the lens, although it could of course be at fault. The first thing to do is to take some test shots to see if it's focussing in front of or behind the subject, then calibrate it using the 'AF Fine Adjustment' in the menu. Of course, this may not help that much, with mine it both front and back focusses with the same lens!

As davd said there are focus issues with the k-5. The problem is if the the k-5 consistantly misfocuses how do you know you are setti g the focus correctly.

All my lenses needed correction on the k-5 yet on the mkii none needed adjustment leaving me to the same conclusion as David and that the lenses are possibly not at fault...

Same for me except I had the K-7. I had wildly differing AF adjustment settings for all my lenses and my FA50 f1.4 would never be the same from adjustment to adjustment. However with the K-5iis every lens I have now focuses spot on every time.

I downloaded Yvon Borques lens focus chart and the only lens that caused me grief was the 28 - 300 Tamron. Nothing on the chart came close to being in focus. Std lens, 50 - 200 and DA *300 were all fine.

I dont own any non pentax branded af lenses so couldnt comment on tamron...
