K3iii - Keep Your Eyes Peeled!

So a K3iii purchase was the last thing on my mind, I’ve been quite content with my KP and for my needs an upgrade seemed unnecessary… however when browsing a popular used camera site I saw a beautiful condition “spares and repairs” K3iii with the note “menu, playback and info buttons are intermittent, only functioning once other settings windows are engaged”. I remember reading a couple of articles on the other forum describing the same issue and potential fixes so thought, why not - the worst that could happen is having a slightly handicapped flagship that is still in working order, for just under £600 with a code added.

Anyway, it arrived and… it works! I can’t get the eye sensor to work but the aforementioned fix worked a treat. So, I daresay if anyone sees a K3iii with a similar issue it may be worth a punt, especially if you can return it if it doesn’t work out.

It really is a lovely camera and the improved autofocus has left an impression on me already.. I think I’ll be saying goodbye to my KP soon!

What rick says. I wouldn't part with the KP if possible, just in case whatever causes the problem with the K3iii eventually causes something else to happen in the future. And having two cameras does have its advantages, such as being able to have both a long and a wide angle lens mounted and ready to go instead of spending time changing lenses and missing the perfect shot.

For those of us (like me) who have a K3iii and haven't come across the problem, can you say what the fix is, or give a link to where it is explained, please. Just in case it happens to my K3iii...

Problem is I already have a Mk1 K3, K5 and K7 so I’ve been considering thinning the herd.. I don’t use the flippy screen on the KP (I also tend to use larger lenses and form factor isn’t the most optimised for those) and I’m not the biggest fan of the K7’s output compared to the others, so those are the most likely candidates!

I forgot to say! From what I understand, the eye sensor is quite sensitive so any mark or blemish can cause it to turn the screen off. I tried gently cleaning the sensor to no avail, so I just turned off the eye sensor and everything works as it should! Other than that, it looks like it’s been well looked after so I don’t have any other concerns

I would definitely sell the K-7 before the KP even though it won't sell for nearly as much, but if the aim is to reduce numbers rather than get some money back it'll do fine.

I don't know about the K-3 III but some cameras have a sensitivity setting for the eye sensor, if there is one maybe it needs a tweak.

So it does have a low, medium and high setting and low certainly appears to work, but you can just click the info button twice to turn the rear monitor off anyway.
