K3 Rear LCD probable firmware bug

This was reported by another user, and I've just found it too. It's annoying for low light work
Firmware 1.20 (latest)

Reproduce: (in darkened room preferably)

- click Menu and it shows the menu
- click Menu again and LCD is completely black
- press AF button, or half press shutter... When you let go the LCD backlight comes on with a blank display. So it's ever so slightly on.
- hold AF or hold shutter in half press and the screen goes perfectly black
- when you let go again the backlight comes on.

Can't be good for battery life either!!!

Have tried all options and cannot stop this behaviour at all.
I presume this happens on all K3??

It sure does Matt, I went back to the old firmware until 1.21 is released.

Which version are you running?

Version 1.11 is good

So it's a 1.20 firmware issue for sure.

I'm back on 1.11, all OK
I feel sorry for anyone who gets the new 150-450mm who need the new 1.20 firmware for it to work properly. I think Pentax/Ricoh need to fix the bug pretty darn quickly.

Hello every one i has the same bug , i do´nt no why when i change the firmwar , for 1.20 it appears this screen on black .





It will be possible to download the old version of firmwar, and re-install the Pentax K3? .
I hope Pentax Ricoh solve this problem quickly.

Very fortunate the UK site is slow to change stuff. My recent K3 actually came with 1.11 so i had no download to reinstall!

I see no apology from Ricoh or any idea when the fix will be available. The US Forum says they reported it to Ricoh team responsible. Do we have any such contact in Europe?

I am still on 1.11 so I won't be installing the latest firmware

Well documented issue on the US forum and in several other threads there.

Also, if you look at some of the Ricoh f/w download pages, they do warn of there being some issues with V1.20 and not to install it unless you feel that you need it - but apparently no V1.21 yet!

I've been on holiday for a week. So out of date. Is there any news on an update for 1.20 yet?
