It sounds like it would be worth sending it in to JPS for a quote. If it's damaged, then that's the only way it will be resolved.

Hello Brian, any chance of it being covered by household insurance? It`s just that being quite old (in technology terms) it may well not be worth repairing. It could be worth checking out SRS microsystems or WEX for a like for like replacement. Or indeed going for a newer model alltogether.

Brian, WEX are showing a used K20D at £169. Condition 9, so I guess it isn`t too bad.

i would not go down the household insurance as what they wil give you as an equivalant camera is a joke
as i know and been down that route with my k10 gp

It suffered a drop a few weeks ago (about 3 feet) and now it, intermittently, doesn't make the normal reassuring noise when operating the shutter, instead the sound seems muffled. In addition, I can take three shots of the same subject and one will be underexposed, another normal, and the third overexposed. I use the bracketing feature quite a lot for HDR work so am careful not to select bracketing when I don't need it; also, I am not holding the shutter button down for the three shots, unlike when using bracketing. As for the noise, the muffled sound didn't happen at all before the little accident.
Sound expensive?
