K20D AF questions

Hi all,

Sometimes when I press the button to do a AF focus I get and red square direct in the center of what I am photographing. Other times the red square is down under center and some times of to the left, Then I have a new red square in the middle left side that is completely red, No red square. Can any one tell my why this is happening. Do I need to change any settings. I would like to have the red square in the center of what I am photographing.

My setting are: Green Mode under the knob I have it pointing to green. On the back of the camera it is set to SEL.

Have a look in the manual on autofocus. The red square indicates which of the eleven focus points the camera is using to determine the distance.

In the menu you can choose between automatic selection of focus point, manual selection or centre point. Personally, I prefer to use the centre point at all times, and recomposing if necessary when focus has been set.

Don't mistake the red square for focus confirmation. The square just indicates where the camera is trying to focus. The green hexagon below the viewfinder image indicates that focus has been established.

It is a dial rather than a menu setting for the K20D. Rbubbly already has it set to SEL.

Sounds like the point is being changed by pressing the 4-way conroller by accident. Be more careful with your fingers or use the centre point mode [.] instead.

By the way, the red square does effectively confirm focus if/when it appears for the second time, along with the green hexagon.
