I just get stuck in and set the camera up as I like it then snap away, I tend to use the manual for reference only
Mind I read the online version well in advance of buying a new camera.

Ok ok, call me stupid or whatever, but I do read manuals too, whether it's my new K200D or my second-hand VW Passat 1.9 TDI. I find it interesting, and there is no doubt that it helps getting to know your equipment much quicker. You read the manual?
By the way, congratulations, Craig!
Best regards
Terry

Yes read the manual, but AFTER you use the camera/drive the car!
They invariable have usefull info burried deep inside, but only read if you have too!
My most precious items have no manuals included, you just learn on the job as a parent!
