Unless I win the lottery I'm going to opt-out of the endless upgrade cycle for a while. I've still got a lot to learn about getting the best out of the K10D.

Odd that... I've taken over 4000 images with my K10D since April. Yet I haven't even used 100 films in my MZ-S since buying that 3 years ago, so I guess I've got more to learn about the MZ-S than the K10D

I agree that the K10D is a great piece of kit and will enjoy it for some time yet.

For what it is worth and this is only my personal opinion, the new Pentaxs' will be ground breaking in many ways. Pentax will finally set rather than follow precedent. The new higher end model will address most of the issues I have had and as a result will be considered a fully professional camera in all aspects. Now, I am only speaking for me and my particular applications. My K10D's have done an exemplary job, but I believe that the new generation will set standard that the competition will have to play catch up with...Nuff said.

I think it's more important that Pentax address the issues with lenses.. Fortunately my 16-50 (initial batch) suffers from none of the glitches of others and worked well on my *ist D.

There is a BUT.... the *ist D and K10D are fabulous cameras (9200 and 4000 images respectively) and I don't want to have to jump in so soon to replace either of them....

Funny you should say that. I had a change in mindset earlier this year when I went past about 5000 frames with the K10D (after about 6 months).

The context is my ME Super which I've had for about 20 years, and put about 10 rolls a year through, on average, maybe a bit more.

With the K10D, I found myself wondering if my far more profligate rate of button-clicking was likely to be a problem until I realised that even at 10,000 frames a year, it would still take me ten years to get through its nominal 100k shutter life. Of course, who knows if it'll break down electronically before then.

Ten years? I can't imagine not buying its successor, or maybe the one after that, within that time frame. I've had my PC about 4 years now, since I built it, and it feels very old and clunky...

The K10D was ground-breaking, too, and staggeringly so for the price.

You haven't been using Pentaxes for very long. Historically, they have been one of the most innovative camera companies, and set lots of precedents.

I would be interested to hear what these issues are.

Have Nikon or Canon caught up with the K10D yet? If so, I haven't noticed.

I have to say, Ben, that I am sure the new camera will have some improvements, but I doubt it will create as much surprise and delight as the K10D.

Hmm! I take more pictures on the K10 than I do on the LX but more of the pictures on the LX are keepers.

As far as ground breaking and being better than Canikon, I couldn't care less. I use the camera for what I want to achieve with it and not to "prove" I have a better camera than someone else.

As a percentage, or in total? I can well believe the former, but I find that overall I have more "good" photographs to show from three and a half years with a DSLR than thirty with a film camera.

Both, but that is due to the way I use my cameras. I have tended to use the dSLRs for web work etc and film for the more "serious" work. That is beginning to change and I am "playing" more with the K10 now. In another 6 months or so, I will probable be confident enough to rely on the results I get from the K10. This is certainly not due in anyway to the camera but my expertise with it and more importantly in the post processing on the PC.

In my round about way, I was trying to make the point that it is not the name on the camera, the number of megapixels or other features that matter or indeed the number of frames that anyone has taken that really matters but how that gear is used and to a certain extent what the results are needed for and in what context the camera is used for.
