K2 threads

I noticed that just inside the lens mount on my K2 there are a set of plastic threads. Does anyone know what they are for? I am not confusing this with an adaptor, this is part of the body itself. I'm assuming they are too small and wimpy to be a lens mount but they must be there for a reason, right?

Hi Dave,
I couldn't swear to it but I think they are just ridges instead of threads certainly if it is if it is the same as the KX. The purpose of having it ridged is to reduce the risk of any stray light being reflected inside. The purpose of the ring is so you don't have a big gap that allows muck to get into where the lens linkages are. If you want it, there is a copy of the service manual which shows an exploded diagram from Mark Robert's website at http://www.robertstech.com/pentax.htm

They are metal not plastic on my k2 I think they are part of the light sink.

Yes you are right, they are metal. For whatever reason the grey colour made me assume plastic. Thanks guys, I have the service manual so I should have checked that.
