K10D Shake Reduction focal length setting

Hi All

Probably a silly question but I just wanted to check - I should set the focal length to 77 for a 50mm film camera prime lens (as it's x1.5 on digital) ?

I thought there was something wrong with SR as I inadvertently left it set to 700 and photos with SR were so blurred!

You MUST absolutely set the focal lenght number that is on the lens. The 1.5X conversion factor is something we use because people are used to the numbers used on 35mm cameras.If APS-C sensor stays the norm, eventually, the conversion factor won't be used anymore, because people will get used to the focal lenght used in this format. Actually, using the conversion factor aall the time just slows down the adaptation to these focal lenght. It's more or less like a crutch! 50mm is 50mm, no matter what the sensor size is.

Ah OK, I'm looking at it in a different light now (as it were) ... I always convert in my head as it gives an idea of what to expect when you look through it on a digital camera. However, I get it now, thanks for answering.

This is so, so true.

I've not taken a single 35mm film picture since getting the K10D a year ago. I was staggered at how quick this transition was. Wide is anything 18 or less, not 28 or less, now.

I've looked through a 35mm viewfinder a couple of times, and thought, strewth, that looks wide.
