Today's the day AP comes out with the test of the K10D. Tested by Damien Demolder.

As I live in NL the local newsagents don't stock AP, but the Canon-owning girlfriend is under strict orders to get me a copy.....

Hope it gets a good score!

The so called 'test' was only a preview. Seems like they don't have their test sample yet as the final para in the article is: "I have dusted off my favourite PK lenses... All I need now is the camera - and I can hardly wait."

I get the impression that we won't see a full test until the very end of Dec or early Jan...

There was I... getting up and out earlier than normal, hardly containing my excitement/apprehension at the thought that I would soon be reading an AP test of the new K10D (especially after getting my order in for a K10D last week).

What a disappointment!! The test is indeed a 'Preview' and not a very long or indepth one at that. I was ready to turn the page to read some more and then realised that that was it!

AP shouldn't have advertised the test in last weeks mag unless they were certain they would be getting a working model to test and Pentax should've bent over backwards to get them a working model to test. It makes me a little dubious of a full late November/early December roll-out.

Bah humbug!

Still... the K10D is still looking as if it will be a peach when it arrives.

as long as pentax gets thiers out before canon releases a two gigapixel, jet engined, autonomous robo cam.....(or an 18 megapixel rebell yell, for under $1000) and pentax should do fine with the d10.
Fired many shots. Didn't kill anything.

this is typical od AP doing their best to fill the space in the mag with "previews" why not just wait for the proper test and save the page (usually a whole one) for something more interesting, we pay for enough advertising pages as it is!

It was disappointing, wasn't it? Still, at least it conveyed some enthusuasm for the product, which is an improvement on the usual indifference.

I still think the classic put-down was when the text of one review of, I think, the *istDS, said something like "Noise is virtually non-existent at ISO 200 and well controlled at higher speeds" and the caption under the photograph said "High speeds exhibit obvious noise". I don't know who writes these captions, but they often don't relate too well to what is being said....

I saw (whilst browsing in the supermarket last week) that the K10D was going to be previewed in this issue. Preview was the word they used, as I knew it was going to be a preview.

The phrase "I have dusted off my favourite PK lenses... All I need now is the camera - and I can hardly wait." would imply that there is an air of anticipation about this camera, and not just amongst those on this board.

I haven't seen the magazine, but it seems to me that what this preview amounts to is a free advert (one or two page?) for Pentax, and a favourable one at that. The article was probably written about a month ago, so it's no surprise they didn't have a sample to test fully.

We'd all be complaining if AP ignored the camera, but previewed others, so I fail to see the problem. They're raising awareness for 'our' brand, which will hopefully increase sales, and therefore encourage Pentax to carry on producing fantastic cameras.

Yes, we want to see a comprehensive test, but let's be thankful for anything that promotes Pentax.

You're right Daniel, it was billed in last weeks AP as a preview only

Sadly the AP test won't be happening until the New Year.

i had it in my hands at photokina. af is very quick.i wonder if it has the same/similar chip like nikon d80- canon 400d-sony a-100. i have seen closeup-prints which could not show real sharpness. colors were good. only prototype shown.

The Nikon and Sony may well have the same CCD chip, but the Canon uses CMOS.

Well its time to eat humble pie.

Despite my previous post denouncing AP for wasting valuable pages with waste of time "previews" I have to confess that the lure of AP with a piccy of the K10D on the front was too much to resist. and yes the have done Pentax proud in thier quick review.

Also included with my issue was a supplementary "guide to DSLRs" and the K10D was also in that alongside the Samsung GX10, again the brief review was favourable.

NOW AP can stop wasting space on unnecessary previews (untill the K1D? arrives)
