K10D or K20D

Hi,i presently have the K-r just now probably had it now about 6 months and basically i miss the K10D(and functionality) i used to have and to be honest i think it produced a nicer tone and colours than the K-r so i'm looking to change back . Can anyone tell is there much between the K10 and K20 ,i know the K20D has higher res but...................

Someone who has experience of both should provide the most informed answer, but if you get a K10 then you'll have a camera with a CCD sensor which produces lovely sharp images at low ISOs. Although the K20 was seen as a genuine improvement on the older camera particularly in low light situations , I know which one I'd prefer... it would be the last camera I got rid of if times got hard.

Apart from the change in the sensor type, were there any other functions that users at the time saw as improvements ... Were there any better processing features such as burst rate, image filters and custom image adjustments that came with the newer processor. And were there any additional direct control inputs added, or more connections and accessories available on the K20d?

The US forum has a web page where different Pentax models can be directly compared. If you choose to buy a K10 they are pretty cheap, Mifsuds has one for £99 rated as excellent condition. The K20's seem to be about £50 more on average. I did some research before buying my k10 and decided on the basis of reviews I'd get a 10 not a 20, I wanted CCD and the K20 reviews often implied an upgrade might not be worth it. The sensor seemed to be the main difference.

Apart from improved noise control the main feature that I remember was the introduction of front and back focus correction within the menu. As I recall the K10 needed a hack to correct focus issues.

I don't want to confuse things, but unless money is a pressing issue, I'd be tempted to keep the newer camera. Much as I love my K10, you can't escape the fact that it's getting on a bit and, unlike, say, a Spotmatic which can be fixed by a blacksmith, is full of electronics which will not last for ever. A Kr will also be a safer bet in museums or anywhere you might be shooting in low light. Just a thought.

Andrew is right, time moves on and the older cameras won't last for ever. I loved using the *istDS and the K10D, but today they are slow and don't have many of the features that the newer models do.

IMHO the K20D is a significantly better camera than the K10D. I still use one for studio shots.
