K10D custom function: Auto EV compensation

Has anybody any idea what on earth the custom function "Auto EV compensation" does??

The default is "off". "On" says "Use auto EV compensation when proper exposure is not obtained"

Can I see a difference? No. And I can't find anything about it on the net...

Having had a very quick think and picking up the camera to find out which setting you are on about here's a wild stab in the dark... If for some bizarre reason you are outside the normal exposure parameters - i.e. you get the flashing display as it can't find a short or long enough shutter speed for example - will it auto shift the aperture to obtain correct exposure if you set it to on?

Just a guess...???

Wish I had my camera with me, but isn't this what automatically adjusts the ISO when the exposure is out of range? I think this is what I had set one time without knowing, and almost all my indoor photos were coming out all grainy with very high ISO.

Whatever it is, or is for, it sounds like bad news to me!

Turn it off and forget about it before it buggers up what you are working on!

Dunno if this helps, but it sounds like spirit_of_will may be the most correct.

I found out what "auto ev compensation" is:
- it works in Hyper-P and Tv mode (can work in Av)

- what it does: imagine, that you fixed Tv value to fast value (e.g., 1/8 ), and then you want to shoot in dark room. So when you half press shooter button, then camera changes Tv value to 'real' value (e.g., 2 sec). So if correct exposure cannot be taken, then camera automatically modifies Tv (or Av?) to get correct exposure.
