K10d, K7,K5

Afternoon everyone,

I've decided to buy a newer body than my K110d and I'd like a backup body (which with K110d will become on purchase of a newer camera body). The thing is I was on the pentax site yesterday comparing the K110d to the three listed in the topic title and there were lots of elements (lets forget Megapixels for a minute)that were identical to the K110d.

Money no object I'd get a K3, but it's not so do I get a bargain and a great camera with the K10 or go for the K7 or K5? I'd appreciate your experience if you own them.

The other is going Nikon or Canon (GASP! the horror). no only kidding i've never run with the crowd.

What about a K-30 or k-50 ?

Yeah see this is the problem. Whats best to go for.I'm thinking semi pro rather than amatuer family day out type of body.

Would they rank better than the K10d? or K7?

K-5 @ around £300 strikes me as a bit of a bargain, even K-5ii available for £400-£450 with low shutter counts would be my recommendation. Particularly k-5ii with improved low light AF.
I missed out K-7 going from K-20 to K-5. K-10's are a few years old now I think you might only consider it a stopgap purchase.

Ok thats knocked out the K10d option,thanks for the info. TBH I've found it a bit difficult to choose as well as it seems the camera press never seem to take Pentax seriously in my opinion. If It's an expensive Nikon or Canon its a great pro body, Pentax and it's 'serious enthusiast'! Cheese me off really.

K5 to K5ii is really just a low light Af upgrade?

Oh and K5 @ £300.... is that ebay prices prices or somewhere else?

Started DSLR with a K-r and now gone to K-5ii. My point being that I love the build quality of the 5 over the r so may be worth handling whatever you fancy first.

Probably best to see what deal you can get rather than being too specific, they're all great cameras with little, if anything, to be worried about.

SRS Microsystems have some used K-5 on ebay. Great to do business with and 1 year warranty. They are between £300 and £360 at the mo.

Had gx10, gx20, k-7 and k-5 currently.

Go 2nd hand k-5, it's a bargain at circa £300

To assist I came from a K100d to a K-30

In my opinion, assuming a modest budget like mine, I would be looking at a K-30/K-50 (same camera :wink or a K-5/K5ii only. These are close to or current line models and you get a warranty etc if the body is new enough.

Honestly I thought the K-100d was constructed better but the newer models are weather sealed, have live view and focus peaking in some cases, are faster to display shots and be ready to shoot again, focus faster, have better low light capabilities, built in level, multiple in camera exposures, an intervalometer, Full HD video ... I could go in for a while

A bargain.

I've never seen any images with taken a K-5II/IIs or K-3 better than what a K-5 can achieve. HQ photography is available for for such a low price these days.
