I've been using a DS for quite a while now and been more than happy with the results however the current low K10D prices were too good to pass by. Having used it a bit now I'd have to say that it's handling is quite reminiscent of my beloved Z1p, which is very high praise indeed IMHO.
The shake reduction seems quite effective in test shots - I'm quite looking forward to seeing how it works with my 500mm mirror lens as it could make that considerably more useful hand-held.
Mirror lenses do now work correctly with SR. This is because you have to set the distance to the point of rotation not actually the focal length. This means a 500mm mirror lens needs an SR value of somewhere between 150-300mm to work correctly. Even then it is not perfect so it is best to get a non mirror lens, much higher IQ (but also weight), unless you need/want doughnut bokeh.

Although th MZ-S was well-made, it seemed to be an evolutionary throwback after the Z1 and Z1-P. Thankfully Pentax got back on track with the *ist D, and the K10D continues in the same vein. A worthy successor indeed.............. however the current low K10D prices were too good to pass by. As I have all 5, having disposed of Z-10, Z-20 and *ist DL, it's difficult to compare the Z-1(p) /MZ-S and the DSLRs as they are so different to operate....I treat the K10D and MZ-S gently, the others are the 'workhorses', each with its' own task....for exotic holidays the Z-1 and *ist D go, for less exotic it's MZ-S and K10D there are reasons.niblue wrote:

I'd disagree that the MZ-S was a complete throwback, although you lost HyperProgram mode, it was easier to change modes on the MZ without taking the camera away from the eye....some you win some you lose....
