K100D Super Problem

Hello, new on here and also new to SLR's so please bear with me
I wonder if anyone can help me please.

My camera (K100DSuper) lost its Auto Focus yesterday. One minute it was fine, the next it stopped working. It's not the lens, we've tried other lenses on it, same problem. Manual focus is fine. The camera is simply not 'grabbing and moving' the lens automatically it seems.

My Husband has had a brief look and can't see anything obvious (not that he or I know what to look for).
Has anyone else had this problem?

Also, seperate issue..... there are specs of round (I presume dust) on my pics. I have activated the dust removal several times and cleaned everything I can get to but they are still there. Very obvious on a blue sky. How do I get rid of them myself or does the camera (if fixable) need a professional clean?

Firstly, the obvious question, has the camera been set to auto focus and not inadvertently been bumped into manual :

There is also a setting in the custom settings to disable the AF function when you half press the shutter button, have you made any settings changes recently. :

Cleaning your sensor sounds like you need a rocket blower and give it a good blow. Avoid touching the sensor at all costs unless you know what you are doing and have the right equipment to do it. Its an easy procedure if you have a blower and generally it will clean it without any problems.

Having read this, I'll ammend my suggestion to that you replace this with the K200D if you need to, and the camera will be almost identical, but with better resolution.

The dust spots are on the CCD, so you need to activate the menu item Sensor Cleaning, which opens the shutter so you can see the CCD. Make sure the battery is fully charged when you do this. Use a rocket blower, carefully, to blast any dust off the CCD. This has always disposed of the dust for us and you may not need to go further. If it doesn't work, then physical cleaning methods are the next step. Kits are available from Pentax and others.

Clarky, I have changed a few settings and wondered about that, so to be safe I reset default settings.
However no change.
do you know what the settings called that you're refereing to?

I'm only going off the settings on my K20, They may not be the same on the 100D. But if you have reset the default and still not having any luck, It wont be a settings problem.

Theres a small lever on the front of the camera which says AFS, AFC and MF Make sure its set to AFS

On the K100D the Autofocus selector has only two positions, AF and MF. Make sure it's set to the lower position (AF). You may also check that the spindle driving the focusing mechanism is protruding from the lens mount. When moving the Autofocus selector, you will see that the spindle retracts in the MF position.

The picture is from a K200D, but the K100D looks exactly the same.
