afternoon all. my k100d super arrived today, very pleased with it, it's like brand new. haven't had a proper play with it yet, but i've noticed when the exposure is a bit longer, there's a strange noise coming from the camera. like a whirring/burning sound. image review comes on when it stops so i am assuming it's to do with the memory buffer.

is this sound normal?

It's the SR mechanism - the sensor is floating on a magnetic 'bed' that is controlled by the camera. It does make a light whirring sound.

When off, and you move the camera around the sensor plate can also move - making you think there's something loose inside!

ok thanks. i had read that somewhere else, but even when switched off it was doing it which is what worried me.

i've read elsewhere though that the mech for it still runs even when it's disengaged. and makes the same noise when mirror up for sensor cleaning.

might as well delete post if any mods can be bothered, non issue. happy new pentax owner

It might help someone else though, so why not leave it for them to view.

That'll be because the electromagnets still have to be engaged to keep the sensor still. It's just that the sensor plate won't move when vibration is detected

Once the electromagnets are disengaged the sensor plate drops and moves around on its own
