K100D Problem

Hi,

I have a K100D that I have used for over 2 years now. I love it. My sister has the same camera.

Out of the blue it stopped working. The shutter works when there are no lenses on the camera, but as soon as a lens in placed on the camera, nothing works. No auto focus, no shutter, nothing.

The setting is in fact on AF, the settings have been reset, and I tried some of the things on these and other forums, like cleaning the contacts, making sure the AF setting works, and removing the outer ring and checking for bent metal or plastic.

Side by side, my sisters working camera and mine look the same! What could it be?

Thanks,
Shane

The very first simple question - have you removed the batteries yet?

Much the same as rebooting a PC I believe.

Yes. Removed batteries and tried brand new ones.

Not sure if this will help, But maybe the firmware has somehow corrupted.
Try re-installing it and see what happens.

Has the camera been sitting idle for long period of time, I have heard if the batteries go flat and its left sitting for a period of time the internal battery that holds the cameras memory and settings could also discharge. :

Have you tried changing the setting that allows shutter to fire if AF not focussed. I can't recall where it is but there is a setting that says allow shutter to fire even if no focus as it might be that the AF is failing and hence the shutter cannot fire if a lens is mounted.

Have you resorted to restoring the factory settings?

Mike
