I've seen this once on a K10D.
I found out that the memory card wasn't properly seated in its slot.
Take the card out, give it a gentle clean of the contacts then replace.
If this doesn't work the contacts in the camera may need cleaning.

But it has been happening since I first got the camera. And i have only had it for two months. The memory card was new to go with the camera too. A 1gb toshiba card.
I'm considering contacting pentax's warrenty service for advice, but am planning going away travelling in three weeks so can't really afford to send it away.

Mine did it from new as well but once I re-seated the card it was fine
Have you tried a different card? Not all new things work properly first time especially (IMHO) memory cards.

Did you format the card in the camera before you started to use it?
Best regards, John

Yes, I bought a 2nd different memory card because I thought the first one was faulty. But the second has done the same thing a couple of times now too.
Both have been formatted in the camera since thats how i tend of clear images once they are transfered (using a card reader)

The image is not stored
It seems to happen fairly sporadically and appears after taking a photo since it couldn't save it to the card. At first I thought it was a faulty memory card so I got a second and it still happens. Maybe once in 70 photos on average.
Anyone else seen this happen? is my K100d faulty?
