Is the lens OK? You haven't said which lens(es) you use.
Is SR on or off (if it has it)?
Have you eliminated the possibility that it might be your technique?
Do you get bad results when using a tripod?
Post an example image with EXIF data intact.
If this problem occurred when the camera was in warranty, they can't wash their hands of it now that it's out of warranty.

How old is the camera, or how long was the warranty?
I believe EU rules stipulate that most products are now covered by a 2 year guarantee, although the retailers do not fall over themselves to publicise this fact for obvious reasons.

I've had a problem with the auto focus not focusing correctly and making everything out of focus. It was sent to Pentax service whilst still in warranty and they said they'd re-set it, but it didn't seem to help much. I got back in touch with pentax and they said there was nothing more they could do. Needless to say the warranty has now expired! It's a nigtmare to use as nothing ever is in focus and even manual is pretty poor. A couple of friends have tested it too with the same results. I hardly take pictures now because its such a problem.
Anyway, before I sell it and buy a canon wanted to put this out there to see if there was anything else could be done. It's a shame because I do love the camera but a camera that can't focus is pretty useless!!
Oh, I have tried playing around with the different focusing points...
thanks,
