All Pentax D-SLR's with the exception of the K20D and the K-7 (Samsung) have used sensors from Sony.

The one in the K-m was previously used in the K10D and K200D (and Nikon D200, etc).

Theres me thinking my K10d was based around a shreddie

Lets not forget that the 645D has a Kodak sensor

When I bought the K10 the sensor had been used in quite a few dslrs and has been used in quite a few more since then, I guess Sony sold it on very well.

If I am not mistaken Sony sensors live in Nikon cameras as well (the 10.2 million ccd from the k10d is in the D80 and D200 with a few tweeks to the clever bits attached)- sorry for swearing guys (I shall never mention the 'N' word again.
K10D, K5 plus plenty of clueless enthusiasm.

I do wonder whether Pentax tweaked it a bit, as my K-m seems to behave very differently to a friend's Sony DSLR which most likely uses the same sensor.

generally speaking, both Pentax and Nikon have managed to get a lot more out of various Sony sensors than Sony have in their own-brand cameras (the actual sensors and cameras are made by different divisions).

Nikon recently claimed to have designed their own sensors, but was phrased in such a vague way that it could just mean they've just added their own tweaks to Sony sensors - developing your own semiconductor design facility is not a trivial matter, and certainly not cost effective even with Nikon markups...

I don't think Nikon or Canon is a swear word , along with Pentax their much the same to me it's the glass you use and how you see things, I have Pentax, because I have a lot of K fit lens, that's the only reason, no brand slave here, I thought the sensor was Sony .
