I think you need a professional to tell you if it can be repaired or not. Are you 100% sure the batteries you're using are charged?

I have tried several sets of AA's both the brand I've been using for years and Duracells, but have had no luck with any of them.
I have spoken to the London Camera Exchange today, but I think the repair may well cost more than the camera is worth.
I might look for a repair manual to see if I can fix it, I'm hoping it is just the power switch and not the circuit board.

Given the price you can pick one up for - I would suggest it is time for a replacement or an upgrade.
If you really do want another Km - a quick look on ebay shows that a number have sold recently for between £40 and £70. There is one for sale currently with 1 day to go at a start price of £59 and no bids - also includes the 18-55 lens - both described as little used and in perfect condition.
Or perhaps something a little better that retains the features you like - such as the ability to take AA batteries - e.g. the Kr - which reminds me - must get my Kr advertised on ebay - it has been sitting back in it's box for over a year!
Good luck

No matter how many lenses I have owned - I have always needed just one more

Thanks for that, I'll take a look at Ebay and have a punt on that one.
Funds are a bit limited at the minute, otherwise I'd be making an offer on your Kr, it is the next logical upgrade from the Km that still keeps the battery requirement I'm after.

Is it worth getting repaired, or is it toast?
I love the camera, it does everything I need (or it did when it worked), I love the fact it takes standard batteries, I do a lot of walking/camping, so don't have access to power points to charge it.
