I think the first shot has great atmosphere - the grain really works for this scene.
The second is a little too dark overall for me - you've got the clarity in the water and the rocks, but it needs a little brightening and perhaps a little increase in saturation?

First shot is a cracker. But ... ...
Lighten the shadows by about 25% and then turn it into black and white, and it is a real stunner.

If the first shot is a crop, Stan, I'd go back to the original and include more at the bottom of the frame. This will give better lead-in lines. The composition is a bit tight. Were I to return, I'd move to the left a little to feature the front of the cottages, but this may not be possible. Looks like a lovely area.

Thanks for the feedback Andrew. It is a lovely area and one I hope to get back to soon. Can't get further to the left will try and get a differ pov as I get nearer to the cottages. I was travelling light when I went there but think perhaps a wider angle lens might be useful. I have a couple of images to play about with so will be fun to see what I finally come up with..

Think I've discovered the source of the noise. For some reason when I went back to look at the original dng file in photoshop CC the setting for "grain" was a high number, 60 iirc. Changed it to zero and the noise disappeared. can only think I was tinkering with something else and had a brain fart. I love that first image Stan it has real atmosphere. Nice images Stan, those settings have worked very well .... F13 ... I like that one, I have been using that myself this week ....F13 is a very good aperture !
Plenty of depth and sharp right the way through. Andrew has those good ideas for the composition, and the area looks like it could really be 'worked' hard for all sorts of framings and angles.
On the 2nd, it just needs some exposure balancing ... a little lifting on the ground and a little highlight reduction on the sky.

@ Nigel, I used f/13 as I'm sure I read in a review that in the wide to mid range with this lens f/8 was good and above that going towards 270mm f/16 was best so decided to go around the halfway mark and have one less setting to think about. I'm pleased I bought this lens as it is good for travelling light along with the K-70 and I don't think the images are too bad either. On the 2nd image I might remove the sky altogether or extendi the depth across the whole scene. Something to toy with anyway.
