Hi Clarky,
Sorry to say this, but Nr.1 and Nr.3 look totally unacceptable for ISO 200 shots. At first I thought you wrote down 13200 ISO. But PhotoMe confirms ISO 200.What happened here??

Martin.
Best regards,

Martin.

Hi Clarky

Love the images Clarky, but would just like Martin said I would have expected less noise on those images at 200

Like Martin I also noticed that noise and would really like to know if the K7 is better at noise control than the K20. This is one of the features that would help me decide if I am getting a K7 or not, of course among some other few ones that I already like. But I have been a bit disappointed with the noise control of the K20 and was hoping that the K7 would be a huge leap in improvement.

What do you new K7 owners think so far about the noise?

All the shots were taken with the same settings roughly,

1 and 3 were cropped a bit more than the others and I suspect it was my sharpening efforts that are to blame was a little rushed

These are the unprocessed versions

I haven't tried any high ISO shots as yet and i'm shooting in jpeg as well,

I'm quite happy with everything at the moment and still working through all the kinks, just need to find some time and some good weather

Sorry Clarky but to be blunt these are nowhere near your usual standard.
I am really hoping that you are having n off day and this is not what the K-7 is capable of macro wise otherwise I will be doing some serious thinking about what to do next.

hmmm I have to agree I guess, looking back on them, Focus could have been better on a few of them.

I wouldn't blame the camera just yet though, its probably me more than anything.

When you say they are not up too scratch, are we talking about the rendering, composition, subject matter, Please elaborate

Thanks for the comments

I think they mean the noise on the images. And I don't think they meant really your inability shooting the images compared to your other previous stunner ones, but although they haven't worded it but I think we are trying to say that seems that K7 is not that much different in your hands than the K20.
Please someone correct me if I am wrong here please ok? Ken, Mike... is this what you all are saying is it?

To me they look a bit flat, lacking contrast, a bit under exposed, some noise evident, generally poor to be honest.

Are you happy with them when compared to the results you were getting with the K20D?

To my eyes they lack that crispness that I have come to associate with Pentax and in particular your macro shots.

There seems to be a lot of noise for a ISO 200 shot and the focus certainly seems to be off in most of them.

Sorry

They just lack the clarity and Ooompf factor we are so used to, when seeing your macro work. And the noise ?? Well....I do hope this was due to PP.

Martin.
Best regards,

Martin.

Pete, No I wouldn't say they were better than the K20.

I took these hand held with off camera flash (Metz 58 AF-1) on a bracket, i'm just wondering if the new Lumiquest softbox I used for the first time may have something to with the lack of crispness. I know from experience that some diffusers (especially with macro) can give a misty appearence in your shots. I'll do a comparison with my Stofen diffuser.

I need to experiment a little more before giving the camera the thumbs down. cheers

Martin, I would understand the lack of Ooompf factor due to Clarky's rush rush and not giving it proper PP but I am just a bit puzzled with the noise at ISO 200. The link you put up with his previous images are prime examples for comparision.

Do we need to put the images shot at ISO 200 through noise reduction engines drastically in order to get some reasonable shots without noise? I would have thought that at ISO 200 images would have been pretty good considering that noise control is one of the features that K20 and I assume K7 are supposed to be well known for.
Unless of course I am missing something again here, so please indulge me.
