K-5 II giving random dates in EXIF

This has happened a few times now. The latest are six photos from last weekend. One has a date of 8/2/2036 at 19.47 and five have 19/7/2041 all times around 14.20.

I know I can correct the date and time, thanks to the GPS data which is correct, but it is annoying.

Has any one else had this? Is there a solution, apart from a new camera?

My understanding is there is a small lithium battery inside our cameras for the internal clock. Such behaviour is usually only noted when you take the main battery out.

It may be the battery failed or the capacitor on the circuit board. This would seem to require a service centre fix. I guess you need to ring one (or a pro dealer) for advice

Thanks Bill. Thinking about it I did change batteries around the time of the glitch.
Time to start seriously saving for a new camera, since my hints for cash towards one for my birthday fell on deaf ears.

In my experience if an on-board battery fails in a device the date/time would reset to the beginning of the date/time range and any settings made by the user would revert to factory settings as the memory is effectively zeroed each time power is removed.
